How Wendy balances

her career and family

Internationally renowned hairstylist Wendy Iles sets a fine example for those

women around the world who are both dedicated professionals and devoted

wives and mothers.

She may even be seen as a role model for women seeking to achieve harmony

between their careers and their family lives.

As a leading hairstylist of top entertainers and fashion and photographic models

around the world, she works regularly in Paris, London and New York and

sometimes in other cities.

As a wife and mother she lives with her husband, Jacques, daughter, Beatrice,

aged 12, and stepson, Frederic, in the countryside.

“Although most of my works seems to generate from New York these days,” she

says, “we prefer to live in the European countryside.”

Wendy tells how she balances her career with her family life.

“I believe we working mothers need to find the right balance between quality time

with our children rather than quantity,” she says.

“My husband works from home. Therefore I am always confident that the

household is running to a good routine and in good harmony,” she says.

“Our daughter understands very well my life and my career and we share a very

strong relationship, not only as mother and daughter but also as great mates.”

Several years ago, Wendy and her husband bought a house on a property in the

countryside. “This was one of the best moves we ever made,” she says.

“The distance, far from the hustle of the cities, gives me a complete cut-off point

from my work.

“On the job, all of my energy goes into each and every project. I am so

passionate about hairstyling. At home I tend to forget about work and

concentrate on being a loving caring mother and wife,” she says. “I believe this

balance is an extremely healthy one.”

Wendy says that spending her childhood in the countryside in Tasmania,

Australia, has influenced her present choice of lifestyle. “I love the countryside

and want my daughter to grow up in wide open spaces amongst nature.

“Here she just lives a normal life, going to school and playing with her friends.”

To further balance her career and family, Wendy schedules her work so that she

and her husband and daughter can visit relatives once a year while holidaying in

Tasmania.

Wendy is celebrating her 25-year career as a hairstylist with the publication of a

my hairstyles,” she says. “I hope it will inspire a lot of hairstylists, fashion

designers and art directors around the world.”
